Importance of Managing Mental Health Problems

Mental and Behavioural Disorders (psychiatric disorders or psychiatric illnesses) are the leading cause of death and disability worldwide, including India. Suicide is the leading cause of death in the age of 15-65 years. Suicide along with many of accidental deaths and deaths due to substance use such as alcohol and smoking are preventable by early identification and treatment of Mental and Behavioural Disorders. Further, successful treatment of Depression improves treatment outcomes in many common physical disorders like Diabetes Mellitus, Stroke and Myocardial Infarction. 

Our Scope of Work

 Psychiatry Clinic, Pitampura, New Delhi is dedicated to improve the functional status of the persons  suffering from Psychiatric disorders or Psychiatric illnesses like depression, anxiety disorders, Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Sexual Dysfunctions, Sleep and Eating Disorders and Psychosomatic Disorders.  

One should make a visit to the Psychiatrist/Clinical Psychologist for the below mentioned situations

 

  • MOOD CHANGES: Sadness, anxiety or irritability. 
  • ANXIETY: Irrational fears or anxiety.
  • DISTURBING THOUGHTS: Pessimistic and disturbing thoughts, unwanted thoughts and fears. 
  • INABILITY TO WORK: Easy fatigability, poor motivation to work, frequent job changes, frequent disputes with colleagues and bosses.
  • INABILITY TO MAINTAIN RELATIONSHIPS: Frequent altercations leading to poor relationship with family members, friends and colleagues. 
  • SUICIDE ATTEMPT/SELF HARM: Any such attempt is usually a symptom of mental or behavioral disorder and must be assessed by a Psychiatrist.
  • ANGER & VIOLENCE: Being short tempered or frequent indulgence in violence.
  • SUSPICIOUSNESS: Some of the psychiatric illnesses are characterized by suspiciousness against spouse’s character or feeling of being conspired against or being followed.
  • REPETITIVE/EXCESSIVE BEHAVIOURS: Excessive concern about cleanliness, repetitive washing, checking of switches, locks, wallets, Counting and arranging objects, etc.
  • STRANGE EXPERIENCES: Hearing voices not heard by others, seeing persons or other images not seen by others, being possessed by spirits or Gods, etc. 
  • POOR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE: Sudden decline in academic performance may be the only observed symptom in children with mental health problems. Impaired attention/concentration is part of many mental problems.
  • BEHAVIOURAL PROBLEMS IN CHILDREN: Conduct problems, stealing, lying, defying authority of parents and teachers, aggression, bunking school, etc. Bed wetting after age of 4-5 years. 
  • DEVELOPMENTAL PROBLEMS IN CHILDREN: Delayed attainment of milestones like delayed language, abnormal play interests, poor eye contact, aloofness, abnormal repetitive movements, etc.
  • SLEEP CHANGES: Sleeping excessively or disturbed sleep. Sleep talking, sleep walking, night terrors.
  • EATING HABITS: Eating too much or too less.                    
  • SEX : Too high or too low sexual desire, premature ejaculation, impotence (erectile dysfunction), indiscriminate sexual behavior. 
  • UNEXPLAINED PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS/PAIN: If there are physical symptoms for which no cause can be found after thorough medical examination and investigations. There may be excessive concern about serious medical illness. 
  • ADDICTIONS: Smoking, alcohol, Bhang, Heroin, Smack and other substances. Internet, Gaming, Mobile and Sex Addiction
